| July, 2010 New Primary Care Centre is a breath of fresh sea air for doctors and patients in Saltdean
The Longridge Avenue Surgery and The Saltdean Surgery have now moved into their new premises within the former Grand Ocean Hotel Development in Saltdean, Brighton. The new Primary Care Centre forms part of a redevelopment of the former Butlins hotel and the Primary Care Centre itself has been constructed in the old ballroom. Due to the history of the site and local residents concerns – The Grand Ocean building is listed, a sympathetic approach was important to the design whilst at the same time creating a functional environment for the GPs and staff was essential. The GPI design team, working closely with the conservation officer, have created a space for the 2 GP surgeries, associated staff facilities and a pharmacy whilst at the same time retaining some of the original features including the light fittings and the art deco wall panels.
“Brighton and Hove PCT worked closely with GPI over a number of years in order to address the need for new premises for the two Practices serving patients in Saltdean. A number of options were considering before settling on the conversion of space within the Former Grand Ocean Hotel on Longridge Avenue. GPI overcame a number of issues in order to deliver this solution, including working with the conservation officer so as to ensure that accommodation to the highest standards could be achieved within this listed building and the results are excellent. We have been very pleased with GPI’s approach throughout this project and the way in which it has been delivered to a very high standard and within budget.” Chris Naylor, Estates Strategy Manager – NHS Brighton & Hove Enquiries: |
