March, 2011 GPI are pleased to announce that construction has now commenced for the provision of a new primary care facility for the partners of the Creffield Road Surgery in Colchester. The project entails converting the former riding school a Grade 2 listed building, which is part of the larger barracks residential redevelopment. Once complete the building will provide approximately 1,100 sqm of accommodation for the 7 GP Practice, along with an integrated pharmacy. Throughout the design process the GPI team worked closely with all key stakeholders, including the Local Planning Authority and Conservation Officer, and by working together have achieved a solution that not only provides the practice with the facility to allow the continued improvement and expansion of their services, but also retains the original character of this important historic building. The works to be undertaken will accentuate and retain key historic features of the building such as its scale and appearance whilst internal works have allowed the creation of a modern surgery built to the highest standards. Commenting on the appointment and approach of GPI, Senior Partner, Vivien St Joseph commented: "When we first interviewed potential providers for this project, we spoke to a GP in our area with whom GPI had recently worked. In addition to commenting on the efficiency of GPI and your sensible attitude to problems, they had been very impressed with how approachable and easy to work with they had found your whole team. After two years working with GPI including some difficult negotiations with the local PCT, I can fully endorse this opinion and would recommend them to anyone contemplating a move under a 3PD system." Construction commenced at the beginning of March and is progressing well and we anticipate being in a position to hand over the new facility by the end of the year.
