March, 2011 GPI Northern has recently handed over a new primary care centre to the Doctors of the former Bridge Street Surgery in Driffield. The new surgery, which has been named the Park Surgery, is less than 200 meters from the Doctors previous practice building. The centre, which extends to 1,380m², has been built to achieve BREEAM Excellent status which is in accordance with current Department of Health guidance. BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has been widely acknowledged as the measure to describe a building's environmental performance. Features incorporated include:
The building also achieved the "Beyond Compliance Award" from Considerate Constructors The site, which is quite close to the town centre of Driffield, was formerly the site of a bingo and social club which was demolished to make way for the scheme. The new medical centre provides significantly more clinical rooms, both consulting and treatment, than the previous surgery and further space has been provided to allow the practice to take on more trainee GPs. In excess of 50 parking spaces have been provided within the development for the benefit of staff and patients. The architects for the scheme were Healthcare Design Partnerships and Wildgoose Construction were the main building contractors. Enquiries: David Sadler, Regional Development Director, GPI |
