January, 2010 From Woolies to Walk-in Centre: New Surgery for Grays
The community of Grays, South West Essex will soon benefit from the conversion of an existing Woolworths Store in the town centre to provide a new Primary Care Centre of circa 1,400m². The new centre, comprising both walk-in and GP services, Booths for Community Users and Coffee Shop, as well as a range of additional community services and associated Administration Offices, is due to open in May and will provide services for registered patients, as well as walk-in services from 8am to 8pm 365 days a year.
GPI have been working with NHS South West Essex and College Health, a specialist service provider to assist them with identification and securing of premises in this central area of Grays. GPI identified and pursued a number of potential solutions prior to securing the vacant Woolworths unit. Located on the High Street, this building is in the heart of the community and with its close proximity to the train station, bus services and public car parks it is easily accessible to all.
The significant refurbishment and fitout to the existing building has been designed by Weston Architects Ltd and construction work is being carried out by Tienda Ltd.
Doctor Pro Malik, from College Health Ltd, said: "College Health is delighted to be setting up an exciting new service for Thurrock. This will be a flagship centre for College Health and will provide a unique service in Grays town centre whilst also being available for everyone in Thurrock to use".
