New health centre in Driffield under construction

GPI’s Northern Region have started on site with a new medical centre development in Driffield, East Yorkshire. The building, which will extend to 1,380m², will be the new home for the Bridge Street Surgery who are making the short 150m move to their new site.

The development is to be on the site of the former Rink Bingo and Social Club site on Eastgate North which is within the town’s conservation area. The design is sympathetic to the existing street scene but will incorporate some contemporary design features to reflect that this is a state of the art medical centre.

Once demolition of the existing buildings has taken place an archaeological survey will be undertaken prior to building works commencing. It is anticipated that works will be completed by January 2011.

In accordance with current Department of Health guidance the building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has been widely acknowledged as the measure to describe a building’s environmental performance.

The building has been designed by HDP Architects of Shipley; Wildgoose Construction Ltd are the main contractors.
