| November, 2010 Construction to start on new Primary Care Centre for Amlwch
GPI has financially closed a 1229m² scheme in Amlwch, Anglesey. Up to 10,500 patients are set to benefit from the brand new health centre and integrated pharmacy which will replace the existing cramped and outdated Glanrafon practice with larger state-of-the-art modern primary care facilities with a wider range of health services. The development is being procured through a partnership between the Welsh Assembly Government, Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, Glanrafon Surgery and GPI as part of the Health Board’s wider estates strategy to renew primary care premises in Anglesey. The new £2.5m health centre will incorporate 10 consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, chiropody clinic, dedicated district nurses room, pharmacy and multi purpose room to provide an extended range of healthcare services. The new building also provides the practice with the space it needs to train new GP’s. The design achieves NEAT Excellent sustainability rating and includes a Ground Source Heat Pump, Sedum roof, natural ventilation and daylight, super-insulated and airtight envelope, Green Guide ‘A’ rated tank and ‘green’ travel facilities built-in. The scheme was presented to the Design Commission for Wales and received commendation for the integration of landscaping within the building, creating a calming and de-stressing environment.
