 GPI was appointed preferred 3rd Party Investor by North Somerset PCT in December 2006 to provide an innovative yet economically designed Primary Resource Centre large enough to house the Harbourside Practice, a pharmacy and additional PCT services. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for increased service provision in line with North Somerset PCT’s Strategic Plan of “Shaping our Future” whereby services provided at a Primary Care level would reduce referrals to nearby hospitals and subsequently reduce associated charges. Therefore, by incorporating physiotherapy, lymphodema clinics, podiatry and pulmonary and cardiac rehab amongst others, the Marina Healthcare Centre would actually help save the PCT money whilst at the same time providing a better patient experience and greater choice and convenience closer to home. Following selection, GPI’s project team, based locally, worked closely with both the PCT and other key stakeholders to help realise the PCT’s objectives. From extensive consultation with PCT, staff and public and using GPI’s experience in similar projects a final design was agreed with room for a 15,000 patient 6 GP Practice, associated treatment rooms, minor surgery suite, a pharmacy and the additional service space requested. Our professional team worked closely with the council ensuring swift planning consent and achieving NEAT excellent status. In anticipation of inevitable changes and potential problems a project on this scale can create GPI set up a Project Board Team, incorporating stakeholders and a dedicated GPI project manager, meeting biweekly to discuss key aspects and progress on site in order to keep the construction moving forward. The end result, a 1,900 m² 3 storey building, the largest health centre in the North Somerset area for 20 years, incorporates a central dome and two arms providing best utilisation of available space on site with extra room for expansion. Parking has also been incorporated. The finished Centre, completed on time and to budget, is a good example of GPI’s ability to combine aesthetic innovation with the delivery of a bespoke facility for the NHS. The Marina Healthcare Centre has brought much needed services to those who live locally, equipping the PCT to effectively deliver a much improved service whilst providing a saving to the NHS. |
